The excitement is starting to build around the team this week as we prepare for the first game of the engage Super League season. The boys are all raring to get to Cardiff for the first hit out.
On a personal note I had a good run out with the under 20's on Saturday when we took on Oxford Uni. I’m continuing my recovery from surgery and improving with each day. We had a very comprehensive victory and a lot of good signs coming from the young fellas which bodes well for the future. I think I blended in pretty well too, I don’t think you could even tell I was over 20, let alone in my testimonial year! We won the game 88-0, so you would imagine I got on the scoresheet. I did, so I reckon if you like a flutter you could back me for top Super League try scorer this season! I have got Dorny covered easy, he’s not as fast as he used to be, and we’ve all seen his tricks before…
On Monday I joined coach Rob Powell, Gus Mackay and our media boss Cally Hocknell went up to the Super League launch in Manchester . I was with all the captains doing photos and interviews for the big kick off on Saturday . There were quite a few old faces were there and I had a good chat with former Quins team-mate Danny Orr who we should congratulate on being named Cas captain. He’s a top player and will lead them well.
Most teams are confident that they will do well this year, as you would expect, and we are no different. Everyone is in full training this week so we have a big squad to pick from and there will be quite a few disappointed men when the team is announced to play the Catalans. That is a good sign for us all because no one person is assured of their place.
On the Testimonial front things are starting to move forward and we should soon be able to confirm a few dates for your calendar soon . If you ordered wine at the Capital Challenge it will hopefully be ready for the first home game of the season for you to collect but we will of course let you know!
